Description
Can-Air® ECO Pond Aeration Systems: Optimal Aeration for Your Pond
Enhance Your Pond’s Health with an Affordable Can-Air® ECO Pond Aerator System
Can-Air® ECO Pond Aeration Systems provide an efficient, easy-to-install bottom-diffused aeration solution for ponds and dugouts. Proudly biologist-designed and assembled in Canada, each system combines a Can-Air® ECO diffuser, sinking airline and dependable Can-Air® rocking piston compressor in one complete aeration package.
By releasing air from the bottom of the pond, the ECO diffuser creates rising bubbles that move water upward through the water column, helping circulate the pond, improve oxygen distribution and support healthier water conditions for fish and aquatic life.
The Can-Air® ECO system uses premium weighted airline and a durable stainless steel diffuser base to keep the aeration equipment submerged and discreet. With no electrical equipment in the water and no floating equipment at the surface, bottom-diffused aeration can provide effective circulation without interfering with boating, swimming areas, or the pond's natural appearance.
Can-Air® systems are designed for straightforward installation and ongoing service. Compressors remain onshore, making routine inspection and maintenance easy. Optional protective compressor cabinets are also available for customers who want a complete outdoor installation.

System Size Guide
Choosing the Right ECO Aeration System
The pond area one Can-Air® ECO diffuser can service depends heavily on water depth and pond condition. Deeper diffusers generally create a larger circulation pattern, while eutrophic or problem ponds require more intensive aeration coverage.
Approximate Area Covered by One Can-Air® ECO Diffuser
| Pond Depth | Good Ponds / Preventative | Eutrophic / Problem Ponds |
|---|---|---|
| 5–8 ft | 35 ft x 35 ft | 25 ft x 25 ft |
| 9–12 ft | 70 ft x 70 ft | 50 ft x 50 ft |
| 13–15 ft | 90 ft x 90 ft | 70 ft x 70 ft |
| 16–20 ft | 210 ft x 210 ft | 90 ft x 90 ft |
These recommendations are for northern climates and serve as general pond-aeration sizing guidance.
Pond deeper than 20 ft? The ECO system is not recommended for ponds deeper than 20 ft. For deeper applications, consider the Can-Air® SS Diffused Pond & Lake Aeration System.

Want additional protection for your compressor? You can pair Can-Air® systems with a protective outdoor compressor cabinet. View the Pond Pro Post-Mount Aeration Compressor Cabinet.
Installation
Can-Air® ECO systems are designed for straightforward installation. The compressor remains onshore while the weighted airline runs from the compressor or manifold to the diffuser positioned in the pond.
Installing Aeration in a Pond with Fish
If your pond has not previously been aerated, do not immediately place the diffuser at full pond depth. Start with the diffuser at about half the pond depth, then gradually lower it toward the bottom over the next few weeks.
A typical approach is to lower the diffuser approximately 2 ft every other week until it reaches the pond bottom. Gradual startup helps reduce the risk of rapidly mixing poor-quality bottom water and accumulated gases throughout the pond.
The system comes standard with a mounting shelf and cooling fan. You can order optional compressor cabinets separately.
Important Warranty Installation Requirements
For the system warranty to remain valid, systems installed without a protective cabinet must:
- Be protected from the elements, including snow, wind and dust.
- Be kept off the ground on a shelf, post or suitable mounting surface.
- Have a cooling fan positioned to move hot air away from the compressor.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is a Bottom-Diffused Aeration System?
A bottom-diffused aeration system uses an onshore compressor to send air through a sinking airline to an underwater diffuser. The bubbles rising from the diffuser help circulate water through the pond.
What Is the Difference Between ECO 1, ECO 2 and ECO 3?
ECO 1 includes one diffuser, ECO 2 includes two diffusers, and ECO 3 includes three diffusers. The appropriate system depends on pond size, depth and overall water-quality conditions.
Which Compressor Comes with ECO 1?
The Can-Air® ECO 1 system includes one Pond Pro CA-65 1/4 HP rocking piston compressor.
Which Compressor Comes with ECO 2?
The Can-Air® ECO 2 system also uses one Pond Pro CA-65 compressor and includes a 2-way manifold to supply two ECO diffusers.
Which Compressor Comes with ECO 3?
The Can-Air® ECO 3 system includes one Pond Pro CA-125 1/2 HP compressor and a 3-way manifold to supply three ECO diffusers.
How Deep Can an ECO System Be Installed?
The Can-Air® ECO system is recommended for ponds up to approximately 20 ft deep. For deeper ponds, consider the Can-Air® SS aeration system.
Does Electrical Equipment Go in the Pond?
No. The compressor remains onshore. Only the sinking airline and underwater diffuser are installed in the pond.
Does the Airline Sink?
Yes. The included weighted airline is designed to sink and remain submerged along the pond bottom.
Do I Need a Compressor Cabinet?
A cabinet is optional, but it provides additional protection from weather, dust and debris. Systems installed without a cabinet must meet the specified installation requirements for warranty coverage.
Can I Install Aeration Immediately at Full Depth?
If the pond contains fish and has not been aerated before, introduce the diffuser gradually. Begin at approximately half depth and slowly lower it toward the pond bottom over several weeks.
Can the ECO System Help Improve Water Quality?
Yes. Bottom-diffused aeration promotes circulation and oxygen distribution throughout the pond. Can-Air® systems have also been proven to reduce phosphates by up to 95% in many applications.
What Voltage Are the Compressors?
Can-Air® compressors and associated cooling fans are available in 120V or 240V configurations.
What Is the Warranty?
Can-Air® systems include a two-year standard warranty, extended to three years when purchased with a protective compressor cabinet. To keep warranty coverage valid, systems purchased without a cabinet must be protected from snow, wind, and dust; kept off the ground on a shelf or post; and operated with a cooling fan positioned to blow hot air away from the compressor.
How Do I Know What Size System I Need?
