Kasco De-Icer Mounting Options to Maintain Ice-Free Water

Kasco De-Icer Mounting Options to Maintain Ice-Free Water

Kasco de-icers are essential tools for maintaining open water areas and preventing ice damage, making them a must-have for any waterfront property. Engineered for durability and performance, these de-icers effectively circulate water to create ice-free zones, protecting your docks, boats, and aquatic life from the harsh effects of winter. With versatile mounting options including suspension ropes (included with every de-icer), free-standing frames, dock mounts, and horizontal floats, you can easily customize their installation to suit your specific needs.

Mounting Options:

Kasco de-icers can be mounted using several methods, each with unique benefits and limitations. Outlined below is a brief summary describing each option.

Suspension Ropes: Each Kasco de-icer comes with two 25-foot nylon ropes already attached to the unit, providing everything you need for easy suspension. These ropes allow you to easily adjust the depth of the de-icer and directly position the unit in an upward/vertical orientation beneath structures such as docks.

Kasco Marine Universal Dock Mount with Simple Swivel: This new and improved dock mount makes dock attachment easier than ever! With the ability to swivel you can manually adjust the position and angle in which the de-icer pushes water. This universal dock mount kit will easily bolt to flat surfaces, such as docks. This kit includes everything you need except for the 1” O.D. SCH 40 pipe, which is to be customer-supplied.

Kasco Marine Industrial Dock Mount with Simple Swivel: Just like the universal mount, the industrial mount features a simple swivel to allow you to manually adjust the direction of the de-icer. Made with more robust parts, the industrial mount will also require a customer-supplied 1.5” O.D. SCH 40 pipe, and is intended for more rigorous applications.

Free Standing Mount: The free-standing mount frame is perfect for temporary or seasonal setups, where mounting to a dock is not an option, or limited depth around your dock is preventing you from being able to de-ice. This very durable stainless steel frame securely mounts the deicer and sits directly at the lake bottom. This mount allows you to set the orientation of the de-icer to have it de-ice vertically or at an angled/horizontal orientation. Kasco Marine

Horizontal Float Mount: This is another great option when needing to de-ice areas that have limited infrastructure to attach to or fluctuations in water depth. The de-icer unit easily mounts directly below the float in a horizontal orientation. The float is easy to deploy into the body of water and must be securely anchored.

Why Does De-icer Orientation Matter?

The way the de-icer is orientated makes a big difference in the area of open water you can expect. See Kasco Marine’s de-icing chart below:

How to Select the Right Mount for You?

With this many different options, it can be hard to know which option works best for you. Below are some things to consider when selecting the right one.

Existing Infrastructure: Assess your current setup to determine which mounting option integrates most seamlessly. For instance, if you have a dock, the Kasco Marine Dock Mounts are often the preferred choice due to its easy attachment and swivel capability. The dock mounts give users a lot of control to change the depth, angle and direction in which the de-icer point. This will also create a longer (but narrower) area of open water. Alternatively, if your infrastructure is limited or involves temporary setups, the Free Standing Mount or Horizontal Float could be a better fit, as it doesn’t require direct attachment to existing structures.

  • Water Depth: Consider the water depth in your area. The deeper the de-icer can be, the more warm water it can push to the surface. The 25 ft ropes allow for easy adjustment of the de-icer depth, making it versatile for varying conditions. Alternatively, if the area you're trying to de-ice is shallow, but a deeper zone or area is nearby, a free standing mount can be placed in the deeper zone and pointed towards the area needing to be de-iced. Finally if you’re dealing with fluctuating water levels, the Kasco Marine Horizontal Float Mount offers a practical solution by anchoring the de-icer securely below a float, ensuring optimal performance regardless of depth changes.
  • Area of De-Icing Required: Evaluate the specific area that needs de-icing and consider the size of open water that can be expected with the size of de-icer at each orientation. Orienting the de-icer in a vertical way, such as the ropes or the free standing mount can do, you can expect a large circular opening. On the other hand, if you need more length than width, choosing a mount that can angle or horizontally mount the de-icer will be a better option.
  • De-icer Setting/ Application: Different mounting options may be better suited for specific de-icing applications. For example, if you need to de-icing in more industrial or higher traffic areas, the industrial dock mount is designed for more rigorous applications, and is ideal for high-traffic/ active work areas due to its robust construction. Another example of this would be if the surface of the water needs to remain free of obstruction, having a fully submerged option such as the free standing frame is a great option.

Whether you’re a homeowner, business owner, or marina operator, investing in a Kasco de-icer and ensuring you have selected the right mount gives you peace of mind during the colder months, helps you avoid costly repairs and maintain a safe, functional waterway. Don’t let winter freeze your assets—choose Kasco de-icers and mounts for reliable, efficient ice management!
